A Much Anticipated – Friendly Atlanta Muay Thai Lesson

atlanta muay thai kickboxing schoolThe Arrival

I have been anticipating some friends of mine coming to the gym for about a year now.  First I have to give you a little background.  One of my passions and the reason this website exists is because of my internet marketing business.  I have been an internet marketer for the last 5 years and have met some great people all over the planet through this business.  If you would like to know more about this side of me you can connect with me here.  My personal blog Sagacious News or my Facebook page.

Anyway, on with the story.  One of my friends from the internet marketing world was coming to Atlanta for an Internet Workshop we attend annually called NAMS (you can join this awesome community of positive movers and shakers now for under $10 a month – coupon code is mynams90) and her blog is about healthy weight loss.  You should check it out – there is a lot of great information on her site.  Her name is Angie and she loves to workout so when she found out about Total Boxing she wanted to come check it out.  We have a mutual friend Natalie who wanted to come check out the school as well and she brought her husband Scott.  Natalie is a Nanny in Atlanta and also coordinates Nanny’s, so if you are looking for a nanny in Atlanta here is Natalie’s website.  Atlanta Nanny Consultant.

Well they arrived at the gym on Wednesday afternoon at about 1:15 and came in a bit tentative.  This is the normal behavior of someone that does not really know what it is all about.  Angie had done a little boxing before but Natalie and Scott had never had boxing gloves on in their life.  I showed them around the school and once they were a little familiar with the surroundings we bowed into the training mat and started the lesson.  They were very receptive and eager to learn.

The Lesson

The first part of the lesson is all about feet position and hand position and just learning the proper way to throw a jab, cross and hook.  They all did very well and with a little tweaking it was time to put the gloves on.  This is always a very interesting moment and one that brings about a feeling of power, still some fear of the unknown but there is a power element to putting boxing gloves on for the first time in your life.

I put on the hand pads and slowly worked into what we had just done in the mirror.  It does not take too long for a new person to really start to get it right here.  Once they feel a good solid punch of the pads they want more and all three of my beginners wanted more and more and more.  This is one of the most rewarding  parts of teaching Muay Thai.  Watching someone really start to get it and realize they have a power and ability that only 20 minutes ago they never knew they possessed.

The workout went really well and they all did fantastic.  We worked on the basics and let them experience 4 minutes on the bags which was about all they could take.  Believe it or not they are coming back today for another workout.  That’s what I’m talking about.

This is an amendment to the story.  They came back for their second lesson and we did a little video.  It is important to watch the video all the way through because Angie does some incredible Muay Thai action at the end of the video.  I have never seen anything like it.

I have written this little story to give you an insight to how most people approach our school.  Tentative at first, a bit fearful but once they come in and have the first part of the lesson about how to set up and start to experience these abilities they never knew they had they realize this is truly the best workout they have ever had.  If this sounds like you – just do it.  Come in and just try it.  I guarantee you will want to come back for more.  At the very least you will find some inner abilities you never thought you possessed.
